ok. i need some explanation. why did thriller sell more than back in black? anyone got an answer? its really stupid that back in black didnt dominate that album. i never figured out how in the world michael jackson got more popular than AC/DC and that golden album. if anyone can thing of a good reason besides the majority of the public has no good taste, please comment.

#1-Michael Jackson was on his way out,and they wanted to give him one last "Attaboy!" OR #2-The music industry has NO FRIGGIN IDEA WHAT REAL MUSIC IS !!!!!!

Savannah,I think it was just the stereotypical music of the early 80's (Thriller that is).It had a few good songs but the pop culture then was enormous and it just went crazy over Thriller.Back In Black will always be a classic album that is played over and over every day by millions of people whereas Thriller is done and dusted.Half of the Thriller albums sold have probably been thrown out by now.I still have my original vinyl and cassette of Back In Black!!...I hope this helps. To add I think if you counted all the Back In Black albums still in use as opposed the Thriller albums,Back In Black would KICK ITS ARSE!!!!

WELL...LET'S SEE: I'D HAVE TO SAY THERE ARE MANY REASONS.
FOR ONE-PEOPLE THAT HAD GROWN UP WITH THE JACKSON 5 HAD LONG SINCE HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM AND IT COULD BE THAT THEY WERE CURIOUS AND PERHAPS EVEN INTERESTED IN FINDING SOMETHING THAT RELATED TO THEIR YOUTH. THIS WAS THE SOLO JACKSON LP EVERYBODY HAD BEEN WAITING FOR...NOTING THAT HE WAS NOT WASHED UP OR EVEN ON HIS WAY OUT~THIS WAS A COMEBACK THAT MADE RECORD HISTORY FOLKS!
FOR TWO- MANY OLDER PEOPLE (LIKE 25 Y/O'S) AT THAT TIME WERE LEFT BEHIND FROM THE DISCO PHASE WITH NOTHING MUCH LEFT AND THIS WAS THE BEGINNING STAGE OF WHAT WAS TO BECOME DANCE/CLUB MUSIC. IT ALSO WAS THE DAWN OF MUSIC TELEVISION AND MJ WAS PERFECT FOR THIS GENRE WITH INNOVATIVE DANCE MOVES AND BIG FLASHY VIDEOS.
I NEVER PURCHASED THE 'THRILLER' ALBUM OR ANY SUBSEQUENT MUSIC OF HIS; ALTHOUGH I DID NOT ALWAYS CHANGE THE STATION IN MY '72 NOVA TO SOMETHING ELSE WHEN A TUNE OF HIS CAME ON BC YOU'D ONLY FIND ANOTHER STATION PLAYING ONE OF HIS SONGS. IT HAD SO MUCH AIR PLAY; IT WAS RIDICULOUS.
I DO NOT BELIEVE MJ 'STOLE' ANY AC/DC FANS FROM THE BAND SO IT'S JUST SIMPLY A MATTER OF THE POPULACE'S TASTE AT THE TIME...NOTHING MORE.
THE ALBUM DID PRODUCE 7 OR MORE #1 SONGS~SO THERE IS TRUTH THAT MICHAEL JACKSON WAS AN EXTRAORINARILY TALENTED ARTIST...IT'S JUST TOO BAD THAT HIS PERSONAL LIFE OVERSHADOWED HIS CAPABILITIES...RIP
