I'm seeing AC/DC in July and I just wanted to know exactly how loud it was.

Hi there

Name's Phil new to this forum. What I don't get is if it is loud for the fans then how come the band aren't totally deaf?

OK cheers for that. I'm wondering if by comparison with other rock bands of the 70s AC/DC were first of the 'superloud'. I've got an old video of 'Let there be rock' which I can tell just by turning up in my living room must have been a pretty loud gig. I've never seen AC/DC myself but in the 80s saw Ronnie James Dio and my ears were buzzing for at least 24 hours after (they were f**king loud!). I think though some of the metal bands of the 80s were gratuitously loud. Maybe it was all 'DC's fault(!) but in their case I think the volume is integral to their sound. Sorry to yammer on but this is something I'd like to learn more about.

I think they wear earplugs, but i'm not totally sure. I saw AC/DC at Gillette Stadium on July 28 and I thought I saw Brian pushing something back into his ear by the end of the concert.

I saw them yesterday!!! Buy cheap ear plugs. I hang around amplifiers all the time, so my ears were doing okay for a bit. During For Those my ears started ringing and now people just sound funny when they talk including myself. I'm so hungover not because I drank but because I don't think I slept last night, I kept tossing and turning with excitement.

Rocking out and giving myself up to their music is making me ache just now. My knees hurt from all the jumping, my neck not so much 'cause I'm always head banging, but my hearing is just humorous...

Bottom line, if you're not accustomed to listening to loud amps and you have some pretty virgin (pure) ears, buy some ear plugs just for a few songs. It's always safe to have 'em.

And most importantly, give yourself up to them completely and have fun!!!!

Hi deadsetmassacred

I listen to AC/Dc a lot on you-tube but you're right you have to be careful as I can find my ears ringing even after low volume. I'd be a bit chicken to listen up too close but they are great fun that said,

TTFN

I've seen ACDC 7 times since 1988 and they they are loud....but I find their sound to be very clear and free of distortion.

Saw Motorhead open up for Dio and Iron Maiden in 2003. Dio and Maiden were also loud but very clear as well. Motorhead however, who I was pumped to see...was loud but so badly distorted I could barely tell which song they were singing. Not sure if a bad night or if the sound guys were asleep at the switch...but I have seen a ton of both big and small bands in all sorts of venues over the years and this gig by MH was bar none and by far the worst in terms of sound. It literally hurt my ears!

Our lads though....they know how to do it up right! Loud live rock sound is kinda like that old saying about booze: Anyone can mix a strong drink, but not everyone can mix a good drink! LOL!

You know I've been to a lot of concerts in my life. Everything from pop, country, rock and metal. I listen to my old head phones turned up to the max, my car radio on max, etc... I love it loud. And ACDC was loud, but not as loud as the first time I saw Heaven n Hell. They were so loud I had to leave before the 5th song was over. Full blown migraine. I got so sick my bro had to drive my car. So I don't feel too old, I like to think it was the two tequila lemonades I had. Since then I do carry ear plugs with me but so far I haven't had to use em again. It is always better to be prepared so that way you can do what deadsetmassascared said and have a good time.

Yeah that's a great analogy malcolm_wanabee but taking it one step further maybe the Dc loud is like a very pure vodka that gets you drunker than you realise whereas perhaps Motorhead is like a rough homemade wine you know is going to get you drunk!

ive read that they are around 130-140 decibels
and just so u know 80 decibels can permanantly damage your hearing
