Share 'back in black vs. thriller'

ok. i need some explanation. why did thriller sell more than back in black? anyone got an answer? its really stupid that back in black didnt dominate that album. i never figured out how in the world michael jackson got more popular than AC/DC and that golden album. if anyone can thing of a good reason besides the majority of the public has no good taste, please comment.
